Monash Fellowships Programme 2010

The Monash Fellowships Programme aims to:
  1. Attract internationally competitive researchers, including outstanding young overseas researchers;
  2. Provide the best possible research environment in which to undertake research of national and international significance;
  3. Support and provide, access to first-class research infrastructure;
  4. Develop and sustain national and international collaborations.

Applicants must contact the head of the school (A/Prof. Michael Morgan) to discuss the proposed project.

Referee Reports

Three referee reports (using the proforma) are due on Tuesday 4 August 2009.

  • One from a current post-doctoral/line management supervisor, or the most recent supervisor since the applicant has gained his/her PhD;
  • Two from eminent scholars who are internationally recognised experts in the discipline.

The applicant is responsible for sending the partially completed referee report forms to their referees (along with the application and guidelines).
The referees are responsible for sending the referee reports directly to the Monash Research Office. Refer to address details above.

Head of School Report

The Head of School Report form (using the proforma) is due on Tuesday 4 August 2009. The applicant is responsible for sending the partially completed Head of School Report form to the Head (along with the application and guidelines).

Margaret Clayton - Women in Research Postdoctoral Fellowship 2010

The Faculty of Science has established the Margaret Clayton - Women in Research Postdoctoral Fellowship to attract female early career researchers with outstanding potential to undertake research in areas of identified faculty research strength or emerging research potential.

One award only will be made in 2009 (for 2010).

The fellowship will be funded for up to three years, with the second and third year of funding being confirmed following consideration of a report submitted by 1 November in 2010 and 2011 detailing the progress of the research during that year.

Applicants must:

  • be female and undertaking research or have recently undertaken research in disciplines of relevance to the faculty;
  • be no more than five years from the date of award of a PhD as of 3 July 2009
  • have demonstrated potential to achieve research outcomes at an international level.

The fellowship is tenable only in the Faculty of Science at Monash University and it is expected that most of the time will be spent in the relevant school or centre.

The closing date for applications is close of business on Friday, 3 July 2009. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. The full application is the covering letter, application form plus the additional pages outlining the project details. Referee reports must also be received by the closing date.

Future Fellowships

The Australian Government recenty announced the creation of a new scheme, Future Fellowships, to promote research in areas of critical national importance by giving world class researchers incentives to conduct their research in Australia. The aim of Future Fellowships is to attract and retain the best and brightest mid-career researchers.

Over a five-year period (2009 -2013), Future Fellowships will offer four-year Fellowships of up to $140,000 a year to 1,000 Australian and international top researchers in the middle of their career. In addition, each researcher’s administering organisation will receive funding of up to $50,000 per year to support related infrastructure, equipment, travel and relocation costs. The successful applicant can also expect further support from the Faculty of Scence and the School of Physics.
