Martensitic Transformation of an In-19at.%Tl Alloy

T.R. Finlayson, M. Liu and T.F. Smith

Cooling

Cooling segment for (100) crystal surface: Observe discontinuous appearance and thickening of surface bands resulting from emergence of martensite variants on crystal surface. At about 75K, also observe the sweeping of an interface across the field of view, leaving just one set of martensite variants in its wake.

Heating

Heating segment for (100) crystal face: Observe onset of reverse transformation at about 80K and steady disappearance of surface bands up to about 101K.
