Project Title: Optimization of linear accelerator performance for
single-pass free-electron laser operation.
Summary: The research project is collaboration between the Australian Synchrotron (ASCo), Monash University, and the new FERMI@elettra project, a Free-Electron-Laser (FEL) currently under construction at the Sincrotrone Trieste, Italy. To ensure the performance of the FEL lasing process, it is critical to preserve the high quality of the electron beam during acceleration and compression.The aim of the research is to design and, eventually, commission feedback system acting on, and stabilizing, the electron beam that drives the FEL. The research centres on theoretical studies and computer simulations of beam dynamics in linear accelerator operating as a FEL driver and in realistic operational environments. |
